“Being a leader isn’t always about being successful or having the abilities to outshine others. Being a leader means that you’re the dealer of hope, and that light that shines within the dark, helping your team through their darkest depths of fear. You have the power to build a bond of not only friendship, but much stronger. You have the capability to build a bond that’s going to help your team establish new heights and goals. This bond is known as no other than teamwork. ”

The Kiswahili word of the week

The Kiswahili word of the week is “Tofauti” which means “diversity”. Diversity is celebrating and actively respecting and accepting the differences of others. True diversity is a critical step that can lead to cultural competency. When diversity is elevated to cultural competency, each of us is pushed beyond the notion of ‘tolerance’ to inclusion; thus helping/teaching us to embrace others because of their differences rather than in spite of them.
“Diversity is the one true thing we all have in common. Celebrate it every day.

As a leader moving through the transformative leadership process, you learn to better develop goals, with a clearer vision/picture for moving ahead. No matter how hard the obstacle may be, YOU will get past it no matter what. These are the traits that you must have in order to go trough the transformative leadership process.

The Kiswahili word of the week

The Kiswahili words of the week are “huduma kwa dunia”, which mean “Service to the World”. The world isn’t always a perfect place to live, just like humans, the world has it’s flaws, From the trash build-ups that’s causing our home planet, Earth, to slowly lose it’s captivity space to the debris that’s gradually polluting our economy.Remember, this isn’t just your home, but everyone else’s as well. As a good neighbor and steward of the Earth, there are a lot of simple things you can each day to change and perfect our world. For example, recycling, cleaning up your local park/neighborhood, buying recyclable materials and recycling them after use, just to name a few. You can make this act more effective by getting your friends, community, and /or school involved. As each day passes, the number of trees in our planet is slowly decreasing. Not only does this cause the animals to lose their homes, but it causes our oxygen supply to shorten up. (Trees let out oxygen for every living thing on earth to breath off of) Even though our planet Earth is a big society, you can do a lot of things to change and perfect our world by performing helpful services like recycling, cleaning up your local park/neighborhood, buy recyclable materials and recycling them after use, etc. You can make this act more effective by getting your friends, community, and /or school involved. Remember, don’t ” …under-estimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Dr. Felice Leonardo Buscaglia

The Kiswahili word of the week

The Kiswahili word of the week is “kikao,” which means attitude. The type of attitude that you’re reflecting can create either a negative or a positive effect.  If your actions create  a positive input, you are creating the foundation for a  positive output, which gives you a greater chance for success.  However, if your actions present a negative vibe, you are reflecting a negative future with fewer chances for success. To paraphrase the saying, your attitude determines your altitude. So aim high and make sure your attitude remains as positive as your future!

Project Idea’s for the new 2011 year  !

Let your positive attitude be a ray of hope for someone else. A compassionate way of bringing hope and joy to others is by volunteering at a local hospice. You can keep the patients company, help feed them, read to them, and/or just be someone who provides a listening ear during their stay. Keep in mind, that many people who are placed in a hospice are battling an illness that no longer can be treated or improved with treatment. Sadly, a hospice may be the be the final resting place for a patient, but it is designed to make their final days more comfortable. Although most patients are visited by friends and family, there are many who will have no one but the hospice staff. This may cause them to lose hope and have a sad departure, but you can help change all of that. Your visits can help them to know they are not alone, they are cared for and they don’t have to be afraid. By volunteering and sharing some positivity, you may be able to make all the difference in the life of another.
